Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-05-06

This policy describes what data latlng (the "Service") collects, why, and your rights over that data. We aim for the minimum data collection required to operate.

1. Who we are

latlng is a free, browser-based GPS coordinate finder and converter operated by an independent developer (the "Operator"). The Service is accessible at https://latlng.app.

For privacy-related questions or to exercise your rights, contact: support@latlng.app.

2. Data we process

We process the following categories of data when you use the Service:

  • Inputs you provide — coordinates, addresses, search queries, photo files. These are processed in your browser and forwarded to third-party APIs (Google Maps, Kakao Maps, OpenStreetMap Nominatim) only as required to render maps and resolve addresses. We do not store these on our servers.
  • Photo metadata — when you upload a photo to the photo coordinates page, the file is parsed in-browser to extract embedded GPS EXIF data. The image bytes never leave your device.
  • Usage data — pseudonymous identifiers, IP address (truncated by Google Analytics), pages visited, language, device class, approximate region. Used in aggregate to understand how the Service is used.
  • Advertising signals — when ads load, the ad networks (Google AdSense, Kakao AdFit) may receive request metadata such as IP, user agent, and ad slot. With your consent, they may use cookies/identifiers for ad personalization and frequency capping.
  • Local preferences — theme (dark/light) and recent searches stored in localStorage on your device. These never leave your browser.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The following cookies and identifiers may be set when you use the Service. We use Google Consent Mode v2 — by default analytics and advertising storage are denied until you accept via the consent banner.

  • _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics) — pseudonymous visitor measurement. Set only after consent. Retention up to 24 months.
  • __Secure-* / IDE / NID (Google AdSense) — ad delivery, frequency capping, fraud detection. Set only after consent for personalized ads; non-personalized ads use a limited subset.
  • Kakao AdFit cookies — ad delivery in Korean traffic. Subject to Kakao's policy.
  • localStorage keys (consent-v1, theme, recent) — your preferences. Functional, not advertising.

5. Third-party processors

We rely on the following processors. They may process data outside your country.

  • Google LLC — Maps JS API (map tiles), Geocoding/Places (search), Analytics, AdSense, Tag Manager. https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Kakao Corp. — Kakao Maps SDK (Korean traffic), AdFit. https://www.kakao.com/policy/privacy
  • OpenStreetMap Foundation — Nominatim reverse geocoding (fallback). https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
  • Vercel Inc. — hosting, edge network, request logs (default 30 days). https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy

6. International transfers

Some processors transfer data outside the EEA/UK/Switzerland. Where applicable, transfers are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Contact us for a copy of the relevant safeguards.

7. Retention

We do not store inputs (coordinates, addresses, photos) on our servers. Other retention periods:

  • Vercel access logs: ~30 days.
  • Google Analytics: up to 24 months for visitor-level data; aggregate reports indefinitely.
  • Ad cookies: per the network's policy (typically 13 months).
  • localStorage on your device: until you clear it.

8. Your rights

Depending on your region you may have the right to: access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data; withdraw consent at any time; lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because we do not store account-bound personal data on our servers, most rights can be exercised by clearing your browser storage and revoking consent via the cookie banner. For other requests, email support@latlng.app and we will respond within 30 days.

EEA/UK residents can complain to their national data protection authority. California residents can opt out of "sale or sharing" of personal information; we do not sell personal information.

9. Security

The Service is served over HTTPS. We follow industry-standard practices for the limited data we process. No internet service can guarantee absolute security; you use the Service at your own risk.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from such children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
