Frequently Asked Questions

How is distance calculated?
We use the haversine formula on a spherical Earth (mean radius 6,371 km). This gives the great-circle distance — the shortest path on Earth's surface between two points.
Why does it differ from driving distance?
Great-circle distance ignores roads, terrain, and traffic. For driving, use a routing tool. Great-circle is the standard for aviation and "as-the-crow-flies" measurements.
What is initial bearing?
The compass direction (0° = North, 90° = East, 180° = South, 270° = West) you would head from the start point. The bearing changes along a great-circle path.
How accurate is the flight time?
It assumes a constant cruise speed of ~850 km/h and ignores takeoff, landing, climb, and routing detours. Treat it as a rough estimate.
