UTM — Universal Transverse Mercator
UTM divides the Earth into 60 longitudinal zones, each 6° wide. Within a zone, position is expressed in meters from a reference point — easting (X) and northing (Y).
Because UTM is metric, distances and areas can be calculated directly. Used heavily in surveying, GIS, and high-precision mapping.
