MGRS — Military Grid Reference System

MGRS is the standard geocoordinate format used by NATO and many militaries worldwide. Built on top of UTM, it identifies 100 km grid squares with letter pairs, then provides finer precision via digits.

Compact and unambiguous, MGRS is preferred where pinpoint accuracy and quick verbal sharing matter — military operations, search and rescue, emergency response.
